Rachel Wolcott (first woman lighthouse keeper on the Great Lakes), Mary Terry (keeper of the Sand Point Lighthouse on Lake Michigan), Elizabeth Whitney (keeper of the Harbor Point Lighthouse on Beaver Island), Harriet Colfax (keeper of the Michigan City Lighthouse, Michigan City, Indiana), Maebelle Mason (daughter of the Mamajuda Light in the Detroit River who saved a man from drowning when she was 14 years old) and Abigail Becker (Life Savior of Long Point in Lake Erie).

DNR fish report: Fish catches improving with warming weather

LANSING - The catch rates continue to improve as waters warm up, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
While some areas may still have bluegills on the beds, other areas report that fish are coming off the bed and heading to deeper water, the department said Wednesday in its weekly fishing report . He says it's a good time of year to catch big catfish.
